Westermill campsite is a beautiful, secluded valley site in the centre of Exmoor National Park, fifteen acres divided into four fields, set up on mown meadows beside the River Exe with private access to a two-mile stretch of the river. This is camping that earns the word properly. The first field is fenced from the river; all the others are open to it — a children's paradise for making dams, fishing with nets and splashing around, while the adults sit back and do very little at all. westermill There are no set pitches. You arrive, you choose your spot, and you make it yours. The campsite sits in the heart of the International Dark Sky Reserve - Exmoor was designated Europe's first in 2011 - which means on a clear night, you simply look up. Four waymarked walks lead directly from the farm onto 500 acres of working Exmoor hill farmland, passing the Aberdeen Angus herd and the sheep flocks without needing to get in a car. Hot water comes from an eco-friendly wood-chip biomass boiler using wood grown on the farm locally. Facilities include free hot showers, family shower rooms, a dishwashing area, laundry and large drying room. A seasonal small shop on site sells bread, milk, eggs and bacon sourced locally, as well as the farm's own home-grown beef, lamb and pork. The Edwards family have been farming Westermill since 1938.
