Hello, I’m Kate, the founder of Produced Near-By. Born and bred on the Cumbrian coast, when I was young, buying local was just what we did…

… warm milk from Tom’s cows in the village, Morecambe Bay shrimps from the house with the mermaid outside, the best joint of beef from Airey’s Farm Shop (as they could tell my Dad which field the cow had grazed in) and, for very special gifts, Cumbria Crystal glass handblown in Ulverston.

Nowadays it’s not that easy to know where to find what’s great, local to you.

Yes you might know a good bakery a few streets away, but what about the woodworker 4 doors down who could make you a beautiful bespoke keepsake for your anniversary, or the community garden in your local park who always sells their glut of tomatoes in late summer?

And if you happen to head off for a staycation how do you know which is the bakery that the locals queue round the block for, or when and where the neighbourhood farmers market is held?

That’s why I’ve created Produced Near-By:

A growing “Yellow Pages” of the best local produce, makers, growers and supporting businesses who bring it to you. Not just food, also wine, artisan crafts, farmers markets, makers markets and the best farm shops too.

How can you help?

If you know some great local produce – let us know. We’ll look them up, and if we can approve them we’ll add them to the guide.

If you’re a local grower or maker, run a market, farm or makers shop, do get in touch, we’ll give you a call and see if you can add yourselves too.
