Fieldstudy — Wild Food Foraging Courses
Sibbecks Farm, Ventnor Exchange and other locations on the island.
Having grown up in a clifftop village on the Isle of Wight, Joseph is a forager and passionate outdoor enthusiast, dedicated to helping others achieve a deeper connection to the natural landscape by exploring the wild food around them. He is also a filmmaker and YouTuber, and brings both the eye and the instinct of someone who genuinely wants people to see what he sees when he walks through the landscape. Don't know samphire from sea beet? Come and join Joseph on a walk to learn about finding, identifying and tasting wild coastal ingredients. This introductory walk into the world of wild food will teach you how to identify multiple plants and fungi and give you some ideas on how to use them in the kitchen. Fieldstudy runs courses at two main venues on the Isle of Wight. At Sibbecks Farm glamping site near Whitwell, Joseph leads guided foraging walks and courses designed to educate and inspire, catering to all levels of experience. Beginner-friendly walks introduce the basics of wild food identification and more advanced courses feature live cooking demonstrations. Each course highlights the changing seasons, showcasing how the island's natural larder evolves throughout the year. The Forage & Feast events at Sibbecks Farm combine a 2–3 mile slow-paced foraging walk through some of the most beautiful countryside on the island, followed by cooking with the ingredients gathered — from wild pizzas to wild beverages — with marshmallows around the campfire to finish. At Ventnor Exchange, the walks take a different character: heading through the steep hills of Ventnor and down towards the sea, with a complimentary hot drink at the Exchange to follow. Private walks and bespoke events for groups and functions are also available. Gift cards for beginner foraging walks make an unusual and genuinely memorable present.

What will participants learn or take away?
By the end of a Fieldstudy experience, participants will be able to identify multiple wild plants and fungi by sight - knowing not just what something is, but where to look for it and what time of year it appears. Joseph covers how to photograph plants and fungi in the field in order to identify them safely at home, so the learning continues long after the walk ends. Participants come away with ideas on how to use wild ingredients in the kitchen, and on the Forage & Feast events, they don't just come away with ideas: they cook and eat with what they've gathered on the day, using foraged ingredients to make everything from pizzas to wild drinks, alongside condiments and sides prepared by Joseph using previously foraged ingredients. Above all, participants leave with a different relationship to the landscape they walk through every day. The edible world has always been there - Joseph simply makes it visible.
