Wye Valley Asparagus Cobrey Farms

Cobrey Farms, Coughton, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire

The Chinn family has been farming at Cobrey in Herefordshire since 1925 and since 2005 has built one of the UK's largest asparagus growing operations - branded as Wye Valley Asparagus, grown in the heart of the beautiful Wye Valley. Asparagus is the farm's flagship crop: harvested across 3,500 acres, supplied to national supermarkets and wholesale markets and also available direct from the farm's honesty shop a quarter of a mile from Cobrey throughout the season. The asparagus is grown with advanced technology and packing techniques that lock in freshness immediately after harvesting. The family has pioneered the UK asparagus season extension - supplying asparagus from February to November. John Chinn's sons Henry and Chris now run the business alongside their father. The Chinn family also produces Castle Brook English sparkling wine from a south-facing vineyard on the slopes of the ancient River Wye - their Classic Cuvée Chinn-Chinn has won a trophy at the English Wine competition.
