Fiveways Fruit Farm has been growing on the western edge of Colchester in Essex since the 1930s and asparagus opens their season every year, from mid-April until around the third week of June. It is the first crop out of the ground and the signal that the farm's long seasonal calendar has begun: strawberries follow at the end of April, raspberries at the end of May, then blueberries, cherries, apples, pears and plums through to October. The asparagus is grown on the farm and sold direct from the farm shop on Heath Road, Stanway at the height of its freshness. Fiveways also sells through London Farmers Markets during the asparagus season.
