Rathkennery Farm
Rathkennery Farm, Ardee, County Louth, Ireland
My family has been farming this land near Ardee in County Louth for over 200 years. Seven generations. Cattle and the sheep have always been here. What's changed is that we're now selling direct to the people who eat what we raise and honestly, it's the best thing we've done. Everything on the farm is grass-finished. Not grass-fed - grass-finished. It's a difference worth knowing about. Most beef labelled grass-fed can still be finished on grain before slaughter. Ours isn't. Our cattle are fed slowly and naturally on Irish grass and the flavour is all the better for it. This is better for the land, the animals and you. Around the yard we've eliminated artificial fertilisers and pesticides - with a bit of help from Merry and Pippin, the farm cats who are also doing a great job at getting rid of unwanted mice. The dogs are coming on well too. Doc in particular is turning into a brilliant cattle and sheep dog. Every box we send out is packed in 100% compostable Irish sheep's wool insulation. It keeps the meat frozen on the way to you and it's biodegradable when you're done with it. It seemed like the right thing to do - and it is. If you want a regular supply, get in touch and we'll work something out. There's no system or portal for subscriptions you'll just speak directly with myself or Caitlin and we'll figure out what fits your household. Plain and simple, the way we do most things around here.
