Kingsbridge Agricultural Show, East Allington, Devon

East Allington, Kingsbridge, Devon, TQ9 7QP

The first Saturday in September, with the harvest in, the South Hams farming community gathers at Borough Farm above Kingsbridge for the day. Kingsbridge Show is among the South West's largest single-day agricultural shows, and the kind of show where the sheep section often fills to capacity with a waiting list - a fair gauge of how seriously farmers around here take it. What sets it apart from the country-fair circuit is the seriousness of the rings. Cattle, sheep, fleeces, arable and Young Farmers' classes are judged by working farmers to the standards they hold themselves to, regardless of whether the visiting public is paying attention. Around the rings sit over a hundred trade stands, a full craft marquee, a food and drink tent of local producers and the homecraft, floral art and horticulture exhibits the parish has always brought along. The parade of livestock and horses passes through the main ring in the afternoon. For one Saturday a year, the people who actually farm this corner of Devon stop work and take a long look at one another's. I'd go just to stand at the cattle ring.

What days / dates are your markets / events held?

The show is held annually on the first Saturday in September, from 9am to 5pm. The 2026 show takes place on Saturday 5 September at Borough Farm, East Allington (TQ9 7QP), approximately three miles north of Kingsbridge. The showground is signposted from both the A379 (Plymouth to Kingsbridge) and the A381 (Totnes to Kingsbridge). A free shuttle bus typically runs throughout the day from Kingsbridge Quay, operated by Tally Ho! Coaches with support from Kingsbridge Town Council. Free car parking on site, with a designated area for blue-badge holders.

What local producer stalls can people discover?

The Show draws over a hundred commercial trade stands across the showground. A dedicated food and drink tent gathers local food and drink producers selling produce to take home or to assemble into a picnic on the field. The craft marquee runs alongside it, with makers across a range of disciplines. Beyond the stalls, the working agricultural side of the show is itself the main draw: the cattle, sheep, fleece and arable classes bring Devon farmers and growers showing what they have raised, grown and made over the year, alongside horticulture, floral art and homecraft exhibits. The lineup of trade and food stallholders is updated each year through the Show's exhibitor application process.

Awards and Recognition

Kingsbridge Show is organised by The Kingsbridge Agricultural & Horticultural Society Ltd, a registered charity (no. 1124452), and is among the largest one-day agricultural shows in the South West Region. It is a member of the Association of Show and Agricultural Organisations (ASAO). The show's sheep section can fill to capacity with a waiting list of additional entrants - a notable indicator of how active the showing community remains across the South Hams.
