Newquay Orchard is what happened when a group of residents decided, in 2014, that a derelict seven-acre site at the edge of town could be used to help their local community. And in this town it really matters. Because, in addition to other reasons, Newquay is one of the most deprived towns in the UK - the bit the surfing magazines tend to leave out. The land was gifted from the Duchy of Cornwall, on the western edge of Nansledan. The Orchard is run as a community interest company - surpluses go back into education, skills, wellbeing and food programmes - and the place has been built, more or less, by over 600 volunteers contributing more than 20,000 hours. There are 120 Cornish apple trees in the traditional orchard, a no-dig market garden, a forest garden, a wildflower meadow with more than 50 species of grasses and wildflowers, a wood workshop, and Kowel Gwenen, the community building. Food from the market garden goes 100 metres up the path to Canteen at the Orchard. The Orchard has won a Cornwall Sustainability Award and in 2024 received the King's Foundation Award for its work in sustainable community development. Open to the public, every day. Free. That's the whole point.

Can people visit or buy direct?

Yes. The Orchard is open to the public every day, free of charge. Visitors can walk the traditional orchard, the forest garden, the wildflower meadow and the woodland areas, and Canteen at the Orchard serves food from the market garden daily. Whenever possible please try to use public transport or walk to travel to the orchard.
