You can walk to breakfast here. Gorsehill Abbey Farm's stay sits on a working organic dairy between Broadway and Willersey in the Cotswolds, a short stroll from the farm's honesty shop, where you fill a bottle with milk from the Shaylors' pasture-fed Jersey-cross herd and pick up eggs, apple juice and honey from hives on the farm. The milk took two Great Taste stars. The ice cream in the shop freezers is made a few yards away. Nick and Jenny Shaylor took the farm on in 2019 and farm it to Soil Association organic standards, as it has been since 1990. The herd grazes the old pastures and orchards year round and is milked once a day, so the rhythm of the place is a gentle one. Broadway village is two miles away and you can reach it on foot, along the footpaths, or in five minutes by car. Stay somewhere the breakfast has a postcode. Then have an ice cream before you leave.
What do you produce?
Organic milk from a Jersey-cross herd fed entirely on pasture: fresh grass, hay and haylage. The milk is gently pasteurised in small batches on the farm and never homogenised, and holds two Great Taste stars. The farm also makes its own ice cream (a Great Taste star of its own, with the Cotswold Lavender flavour made from lavender cut at Snowshill), presses apple juice and sells honey from hives on the farm. All of it is sold through the self-service honesty shop in the old milking parlour, alongside eggs from Billy's Eggs at Stow-on-the-Wold. The farm has been certified organic since 1990.
