It began in 2020 with a garden shed, selling essentials to people who couldn't easily get to the shops in lockdown. Today The Goat Shed at Honingham, just off the A47 west of Norwich, is a farm shop, deli and kitchen. But the goats came first. Sam Steggles had been making goats' cheese from his own herd at Fielding Cottage for more than a decade before the shed went up. The shop proper opened in February 2021, after a £250,000 investment. It has since spread into the barn next door, with a butchery, a bakery counter and a deli. The kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and Sunday roasts looking out over the goats, and there's holiday accommodation on site for anyone who wants to stay. The judges noticed quickly. The Goat Shed was the East Anglia regional winner for large farm shops in the 2023 Farm Shop & Deli Retailer Awards, and a finalist again in 2026. I love that something this size started with such a plain idea: make something good on the farm and find a way to sell it straight to the people who live nearby.

What do you sell?
Fielding Cottage goats' cheese from the family's own herd, alongside meat from the on-site butchery, bread and pastries from the bakery counter, deli foods, groceries, drinks and gifts. The Goat Shed Kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, cakes and Sunday roasts, and bookings are taken for lunch.
Which local producers do you stock?
Fielding Cottage, the Steggles family's own goats' cheese business, made with milk from the herd on site. The rest of the shelves are filled from Norfolk and East Anglian food and drink producers.
Opening Hours / Delivery Days
Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm. Sunday, 9.30am to 4pm. Seasonal and bank holiday hours may differ. Please check their website for current opening hours.
