Royal Norfolk Show, Costessey, Norfolk
Costessey, Norwich, Norfolk, NR5 0TT
The Royal Norfolk Show fills the Norfolk Showground at Costessey, on the western edge of Norwich, with around 3,000 animals and 80,000 people for two days at the end of June. It's the county's flagship agricultural show, run by the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association, and in 2027 it falls on Wednesday 30 June and Thursday 1 July. There are around 700 trade stands, plenty of them selling machinery and services rather than food. I'd make time for two things. The livestock lines, where farmers bring their animals in front of the judges. And the food and drink hall, where usually more than 100 producers, many from Norfolk and the rest of East Anglia, sell what they rear, grow and make under one roof. Norfolk grows a great deal of the country's food, and most of the year you'd never know it from a supermarket shelf. For two days you can watch the livestock judged and buy from the people who make the food. Go early. The gates open at seven.

Last entry is 7pm on the Wednesday and 6pm on the Thursday, and trade stands open from 8.30am. There is evening entertainment on the Wednesday until around 9pm. The showground is on Dereham Road, Costessey, just off the A47 Norwich Southern Bypass at the Longwater Interchange (A1074). Parking is free and under-fives go in free.
What local producer stalls can people discover?
The food and drink hall is the part of the show this guide is about. Usually more than 100 food and drink producers trade there under one roof, many of them from Norfolk and the wider East Anglian region. Expect the produce Norfolk rears, grows and makes: sausages, cheese, chutneys and pickles, cakes, local liqueurs and, at the end of June, the first strawberries. Out on the showground, the livestock classes put around 3,000 animals in front of the judges, which is the other half of the same picture: the farms behind the food, bringing their best. Stallholders change from year to year, so check the show's website nearer the date to see who has booked.
