Bronfelen Farm, Cynghordy, Carmarthenshire
Bronfelen, Cynghordy, Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, SA20 0LW
We came to Wales from Sussex in 2020 with a flock of sheep in tow. Bronfelen Farm sits on 53 acres above Cynghordy, near Llandovery in Carmarthenshire, where we raise lamb, hogget and pork to sell direct. Neither of us grew up farming. We met at agricultural college, decided this was the life we wanted, and made the move with the flock. We lamb around 180 ewes a year. The sheep are out grazing for most of it, in off the hill only at lambing, when the barn turns into a maternity ward. Some of our flock also graze conservation land for The Carbon Community, the tree and soil research charity just up the road at Glandwr Forest. We choose every animal ourselves before it goes to our local butcher, then it comes back to us to be cut, packed and boxed here on the farm. That is the part most people never see, and it is why we can tell you which field your meat came from. There are pigs, chickens, ducks and a few dogs about the place too, along with a daughter who is far more interested in the hens than in us. In season we sell our own eggs, honey from our bees and elderflower cordial from a little shop by the yard. If you want to buy meat from the people who actually raised it, this is us.
