Creake Abbey Farmers' Market, North Creake, Norfolk
North Creake, Fakenham, Norfolk, NR21 9LF
On the first Saturday of almost every month, the old grain store and brick-and-flint barns at Creake Abbey fill up with food and drink producers from across East Anglia. Creake Abbey Farmers' Market, near Fakenham in north Norfolk, sits beside the ruins of a 13th-century Augustinian abbey. More than 60 stallholders take part. Burn Valley Vineyard brings local wine. Bread Source comes over from Aylsham with bread and pastries, and Bates Moor Farm brings grass-fed Highland beef from Foulsham. Barsham Brewery and Panther Brewery cover the beer. From October, Brancaster Bay Shellfish arrive with live mussels for as long as the season runs. Around them are stalls selling meat, cheese, vegetables, flowers, preserves, cakes and a good deal more. In 2025 the market was named an East of England champion for rural enterprise in the Countryside Alliance Awards. What I like is that the market wants you to talk to the people behind the food. Taste things, ask questions, find out where something was grown before you hand over your money. The independent shops and café at Creake Abbey are open too, so it makes a proper morning out. Bring a bigger bag than you think you'll need.
