Davies Fish Shop is on Garden Street in Cromer, on the North Norfolk coast, and the crab comes in on the family's own boats. The Davies family have fished out of Cromer for eight generations. Their boats still work off the beach. The crab goes from the pots to the shop counter without passing through anyone else's hands. Plenty of seaside shops sell Cromer crab. At Davies, the family who catch it also cook it and sell it. The family's other job has been the lifeboat. Davies men have crewed and coxed the Cromer lifeboat for generations, alongside the crab fishing. Rick Stein put the shop in his Food Heroes. I'd put dressed Cromer crab ahead of the pier on my list of things to do in Cromer. Preferably eaten on the seafront.
