Dun Deagh Farm, Lucan

Lucan, Dublin

A box of vegetables, seven or eight kinds, picked up on a Saturday morning by the bike racks at Clonsilla station. That's Dun Deagh Farm, a market garden at Lucan on the western edge of Dublin. Most of what they grow goes out as a weekly box, ordered online and collected on Saturdays or from their stall at Leixlip Farmers Market at St Mary's Church on Main Street. There's also a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) scheme, where you pay for a share of the season up front and take a box of whatever's ready each week, around forty weeks from June into February. It's the most direct way I know to back a grower because your money goes in before the seeds do.
