Foraging at Chapel House Farm, Craswall, Herefordshire
Craswall, Herefordshire Location: HR2 0PN
Forager and author Liz Knight walks the hedges and fields at Chapel House Farm above Craswall and shows a small group what is edible in them on her foraging courses which are run monthly April- October. The farm sits high in the Black Mountains, on land Simon and Anita Dale are slowly returning to wood pasture, so there is a lot to find. A foraging day runs from morning to mid-afternoon. You spend the first half out with Liz learning to spot, pick and use wild plants, then sit down to a lunch Anita cooks from what you have gathered and what the farm has grown. The afternoon is yours, either back out with Liz or making drinks, tinctures and condiments to take home. The dates for the rest of 2026 are set and places are limited, so they book up. Liz runs the courses, so booking goes through her at Forage Fine Foods rather than the farm. In the camping months there is a simpler pleasure too. The Dales light the old farmhouse bread oven and cook pizza on the farm's own flour, with their beef and pork on the fire alongside. You don't need to be a forager for that! You just need to be hungry and be there on the right evening. Check their website for more details.

Days, dates and times
Full-day foraging courses roughly once a month from spring to autumn, led by Liz Knight. Mornings out foraging, lunch on the farm, afternoons foraging again or making preserves. Fireside food and pizza nights run through the camping season.
About this experience
A foraging day begins mid-morning, walking the hedges, fields and wood pasture at Chapel House Farm with the forager and author Liz Knight, learning which wild plants are worth picking and what to do with them. Around midday you stop for a lunch Anita Dale cooks from the morning's foraging and the farm's own produce. The afternoon is free, either back out with Liz or making drinks, tinctures and condiments to take home. Separately, through the camping season, the Dales cook over fire and fire the old farmhouse bread oven, turning out pizza on their own flour with their beef, pork and hogget alongside.
How to book / attend
The foraging courses are run by Liz Knight, so booking and payment go through her at Forage Fine Foods: www.foragefinefoods.com, not the farm. Places are limited. For the fireside food nights and pizza evenings, follow Chapel House Farm on social media or contact them directly to check what is on and when.

What will participants learn or take away?
You will come away able to identify and use a range of wild plants from the Black Mountains, and with whatever you make in the afternoon, drinks, tinctures or condiments, to take home. There is a cooked lunch built from the morning's foraging, and a clearer sense of what a hedge can feed you.
