Greengate Fruit Trees

Broad Oak, Hereford

Hidden away in Herefordshire, where traditional orchards once dominated the landscape, Greengate Fruit Trees is helping to quietly revolutionise how we think about fruit cultivation. Across the Three Counties (Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire) traditional orchards that once provided fruit, cider, livestock grazing and employment have largely vanished, replaced by intensive plantations focused solely on producing commercial dessert varieties of fruit. While these modern systems efficiently supply our supermarkets at scale, they have led to the loss of the complex ecosystems of traditional orchards. Thankfully today many initiatives across the Three Counties are working to restore these traditional orchards and revive the expert skills rewired to care for their trees and crops. Jonathan Keyte and Anna Stankiewicz, the founders of Greengate Fruit Trees help to reintroduce traditional varieties to these orchards through their supply of high quality traditional variety replacement trees alongside modern varieties which also thrive in low-input systems, making both perfect for agroforestry and traditional orchards. They also propagate from traditional trees to order. For landowners seeking high-quality modern and heirloom fruit trees as alternatives to industrial monoculture fruit farming, Greengate offers more than plants, through their regenerative fruit tree nursery they provide fruit growing advice, educate you on how to prune you orchard and propagate your trees to order. To find out more please contact Jonathan and Anna directly.
