Handmade Shoes by Stabo
76 Cambridge Road, Impington, CB24 9NU Appointments on request call 07548 745197
We lovingly craft our range of handmade slippers and shoes in our Cambridgeshire studio. Shoes are a labour of love, each one has several process including lasting where you soak the slippers in their mould or 'last' for 24 hours and then have to painstakingly wait for them to dry before you can move onto the next process. Our oiled leather slippers are ideal for nipping into the garden or wearing around the home. We use crepe soles which is a rubber product and completely waterproof. We also run 'make your own slipper' workshops where we share our knowledge and tools to teach people how to make a pair of slippers. These classes are popular gifts and particularly good for 'hard to buy for' friends and family members.

What do you produce?
Shoes and slippers in leather and felt.
Where do you source your ingredients / materials from?
British suppliers although a lot of these products come from an international market, but the craftsmanship is entirely UK. So for example we get our soling crepe from a Northamptonshire shoe making supplier, our leather is also from a Northamptonshire leather merchant.
Why do your customers love your products?
Handmade shoes are really special. Shoes like ours are quite specific, they have quite a simple, rounded style which gives the foot plenty of room to move. They are good for people with wide feet. We also sell sheepskin insoles which make your feet really toasty.
What are your best selling products?
The slip on leather and felt slippers are a classic style and so useful. The option to personalise the heel is also really popular and is really useful for a family where lots of family members have the same sized feet. As our children get older sorting out whose shoes are whose gets harder.
Where can we buy your products?
Online but we also regularly attend fairs and craft markets but different ones in different places. See our website and social media for details.
Are you open for visitors? If yes, what are your opening hours?
Yes but by appointment only. Give us a call on 07548 745197 and if we're around we're happy to have visitors.
Do you sell wholesale? If so how do we get in touch with you to discuss further?
We're really happy to sell wholesale, one exciting contract was with a housing developer who offered branded slippers as a gift to new home owners. Slippers can be so useful and are such a great addition to a home.
Who's the best local producer near you (except you of course!)?
This isn't the best local producer but it's a shout out for a community. We live in Impington and when we moved here in 2010 there wasn't no permanent cafe. Since then there has been a complete transformation and we now have four thriving cafes all serving delicious homemade food and drinks; the Station House, Stir, St Andrews Centre and Tawa Lounge. We've also seen all the pubs respond to changing times and reinvent themselves. If you're on the A14 travelling past Cambridge or find yourself near Histon & Impington pop into one of our lovely cafes or pubs. You can't beat them.
For anyone visiting your area what's your "must see" local place?
It's a slight drive but if you're in Cambridgeshire the Raptor Foundation near St Ives makes for a great day out. They do two talks and flying sessions a day and I don't think we've ever been to a bad session there and regularly stay for both talks. They have a range of animals as well as birds, for a family it's really affordable and they have a cafe. They even have accommodation there, so you can wake up to the meerkats and reptiles.
