Holme Farm Venison, Rowlands Castle, Hampshire
Holme Farm, Stansted, Rowlands Castle, PO9 6DT
The Gradidge family have farmed at Holme Farm since 1983, when they moved across from the Hampshire / Wiltshire border. The holding is about 160 acres of woodland, grassland and arable, tucked against Stansted Park and Stansted Forest, with the South Downs National Park starting at the boundary. Michael farms with his son Chris and daughter Heather. Lizzy runs the venison side. Most of what's sold in the supermarket as venison is farmed red deer from New Zealand. This is the opposite of that: wild, local, the deer that were already going to be taken to keep the herd in check, in a freezer pack you collect yourself. The deer come from the woods and grassland around Holme Farm itself, on the Hampshire / West Sussex border. Lizzy sells them as freezer packs, collection only, from the farmyard. Wild fallow, roe and muntjac, all from the farm and the fields around it.
