Letheringsett Watermill produces thirteen of its own stoneground flours - all bakers-grade strong bread flours, ranging from 100% wholewheat wholemeal to their specialty spelt, a grain the Romans first brought to Britain and one that many wheat-sensitive bakers can tolerate. Grain is sourced from local farmers. They also stock flours from master miller GR Wrights for baking needs their own range doesn't cover, and run a tearoom on site serving coffee, cake, soup and rolls made with flour ground in the mill just steps away. The mill is Norfolk's last remaining flour-producing watermill and the chalk stream is the reason it's still here. The red-brick building you see today was built in 1802, though a mill has stood on this site since at least the Domesday Book, when 580 watermills were recorded across Norfolk. It sits on the River Glaven, a chalk-fed river that has driven the stones for centuries. Mike and Marion Thurlow took on the disused mill in 1987 and spent years restoring it to working order. Their daughter Michelle now runs the business. Member of the Traditional Cornmillers Guild. Grade II* listed. Open Tuesday to Friday, with guided tours by prior arrangement.

Can people visit or buy direct?

The mill shop, antiques shop and tearoom are open to the public Tuesday to Friday, 10am–3pm (closed Saturday, Sunday, Monday). Disabled access is limited to the ground floor due to the listed-building status. Dogs are welcome in outdoor areas on leads, but not inside the mill. Guided tours available by prior arrangement.
