Perry Court Farm grows asparagus on 4 acres of their 800-acre farm just outside Ashford in Kent - and it is one of a remarkable range of crops that the Fermor family has grown here for over 80 years. Lionel and Jessie Fermor purchased the farm in 1951. Their son Martin and wife Heidi built the direct sales operation, starting farmers markets in Barnes, Islington and Wimbledon in 2000 after growing frustrated with supermarket pricing and waste. The operation grew to 20+ markets in a single weekend. Now three of their four children work on the farm including Jess, who runs the shop and keeps her own pedigree Southdown flock, and Laurie, who runs the Biscuits Tea Room. Asparagus is one of the spring highlights alongside 55 acres of apples and pears across 200+ varieties, 30 acres of cherries, strawberries, a wide range of seasonal veg and a PYO cherry operation in summer. The farm shop, converted from an old oasthouse and extended into a large barn, has a cheese room, butchery counter, deli, bakery and tearoom. Open 7 days a week, 8am–6pm.
