The J W Allen & Sons partnership was established in 1980, with asparagus introduced in 1985. The main holding at Portwood Farm, Great Ellingham in Norfolk, is now the centre of a 1,050-acre business with 200 acres committed to asparagus and 250 tonnes produced annually. Marketed under the Portwood Asparagus brand, the farm picks and packs seven days a week throughout the season to guarantee the highest levels of quality and freshness. The farm shop opens solely for the asparagus season, from early April to 21st June, and direct sales to the public sit alongside supply to retailers, caterers and wholesale markets.
