Rothiemurchus Farm Shop, Aviemore, Inverness-shire
Rothiemurchus, By Aviemore, Inverness-shire, PH22 1QH
Walk into the Rothiemurchus Farm Shop, minutes from Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park and the counter holds the estate's own produce including Highland beef from cattle grazed on the Grant family's land around you and venison selected by the estate's own stalker and butchered in-house. The shop is the farm-gate of a working Highland estate, part butcher, part deli, part larder. Around the meat sit local cheeses, seasonal fruit and vegetables, breads and Scottish store-cupboard staples, with an online shop for pre-ordering ahead of collection. It's open every day, 9.45am to 4.30pm. James Martin's Islands to Highlands TV series stopped at Rothiemurchus, most people travelling through Aviemore should do too. There are plenty of places to buy venison in the Highlands, fewer where the deer were on the hill behind you.
