The Farm Kitchen

The Farm Kitchen, Simonsbath, Exmoor, Somerset

Tucked into the heart of Exmoor's rolling moorland, The Farm Kitchen is a unique farm-to-table dining experience where seasonal British ingredients are turned into creative and thoughtful multi-course menus. In a converted 18th century stable block on her farm, MasterChef finalist Louise Lyons MacLeod hosts a monthly supper club, creating and cooking exceptional food using the best seasonal produce from her farm and surroundings. Louise is first and foremost a farmer: her 25 acres of farmland is home to a flock of rare-breed Whiteface Dartmoor sheep, Middle White and Saddleback pigs, goats and horses, all raised on diverse Exmoor pasture using sustainable, nature-friendly methods. The meat from these slow-reared native rare breeds forms the backbone of many of her dishes. The Farm Kitchen seats 24 guests and every menu is seasonal. Dishes change throughout the year and have featured the likes of crab bon bon with Exmoor caviar, Whiteface Dartmoor hogget with smoked whey sauce, Exmoor venison with juniper and carrots, and puddings such as honey panna cotta with whortleberries and thyme. Guests describe the cooking as "seasonal and British but also playful and nostalgic," "bold and daring," "precise and full of flavour," and "a celebration of the best of British produce." Louise's food is always ingredient-led it's enormously important to her that she supports British farmers and uses as much locally grown produce as possible. The result is a deeply personal, convivial evening that celebrates the very best of what Exmoor has to offer.
