I’m Tracy Wells, a couture milliner based in Ulverston, on the edge of the Lake District. I design and handcraft unique hats, fascinators and accessories using traditional millinery techniques. Every piece is carefully made by me, from blocking and sewing through to trimming and finishing. Each design is one-off — I never repeat a hat unless it’s specially requested (for example, for bridesmaids) — so my clients know they’re wearing something truly bespoke. I trained in couture millinery (City & Guilds) and first built my experience in the Cotswolds before returning home to Cumbria to grow my practice. Over the years, I’ve created pieces for Boy George, Donna Alexander (Holby City), worked with Gok Wan and had commissions for London Hat Week. My work has also won awards for both design and business, something I’m really proud of. My studio is here in Ulverston, where I usually see clients by appointment. I also run a “Hat Box” hire service and have created a fascinator workshop kit you can enjoy at home — with materials and a video guide from me. Whether it’s for a wedding, races or a special event, I love helping people find or create the perfect headpiece.
