turninloose

2 Elwell Grove Waltham on the Wolds Leicestershire LE14 4FG

We love making things from wood, predominantly wood turning bowls and vessels, share boards and other items all made from storm felled or naturally felled trees. All locally sourced, and all our items are handmade with great consideration for the raw materials we use….. sensitive to the natural grain of wood itself, and embracing the art that forms when wood is shaped and given time to develop into functional pieces for your home. We waste nothing, the sawdust we create goes to compost and also to animal beds. Small though we are, mighty we are in our thinking. Self taught and creating new items from the raw materials we gather…. Everything finished in food safe oil, and natural so each piece is a true representation of the natural

What do you produce?

Bowls, vases, all small medium and large. All from locally sourced wood, fallen trees to be precise. Share boards, doorstops, new items under development also.

Where do you source your ingredients / materials from?

Our raw materials are storm felled or naturally felled trees. As much as we can, within a 50 mile radius. Managing our waste to a local compost company and to animal beds

Why do your customers love your products?

Our customers love the touch, feel, aroma and look of our products. Organic shapes that resonate with the modern home, each piece a personality of its own, even bought in pairs, our customers see the variances in the wood and often come back saying just how much personality each piece has.

What are your best selling products?

Medium and large bowls generally are our best sellers. Yarn bowls when we head toward winter and the knitters prepare to hunker down as the nights draw in…. Share boards are a recent addition, with many being used as dinner party centre pieces

Where can we buy your products?

We have an Instagram and Facebook page; and we also attend local markets - if you see something you like, drop us a line and we’ll be happy to help

Are you open for visitors? If yes, what are your opening hours?

Workshop is not visitor friendly, though we do work with customers to create commissions for some items

Have you received any awards / lovely recommendations from experts (don't be shy!)?

We’ve been grateful to have super lovely feedback from our costumers, face to face at markets, comments made to us online and also, rather remarkably, through the local community ‘that’s the turninloose team, they’re lovely’ (actually happened in a supermarket! We blushed!)

Do you sell wholesale? If so how do we get in touch with you to discuss further?

All enquiries, email us at turninloose@gmail.com, or pop over to Facebook and Instagram and drop us a line

Who's the best local producer near you (except you of course!)?

Old forge woodcraft; a very talented woodsman; creating bespoke pieces for restaurants and bars in the local area @oldforgewoodcraft on Instagram and Facebook

For anyone visiting your area what's your "must see" local place?

Belton house near Grantham, Belvoir castle in Rutland. Belmont tower and Londonthorpe woods near Grantham too, head into melton and take yourself a walk around Melton Country Park, all around these areas are some fine pubs serving amazing food and fantastic wines and beers
