Westermill Farm Beef, Lamb & Pork
Westermill Farm, Exford, Exmoor National Park, Somerset, TA24 7NJ
The Edwards family have farmed at Westermill since 1938 and have been on Exmoor for many generations before that. This is not a farm that arrived at good farming by accident - it is bred into the place. And the meat they produce reflects exactly that. Westermill runs around 60 Aberdeen Angus suckler cows, a closed herd that breeds its own replacement heifers and bulls. The cattle calve in March and April, turning out to pasture on the diverse Exmoor grassland and all steers are finished here at 29 months. The beef is award-winning, free-range and home-grown, raised slowly on a working hill farm with no arable, no shortcuts, and no imported feed. The farm is in a Ten Year High Level Stewardship Scheme, with several Somerset Wildlife Sites on the land. The sheep flock numbers approximately 600 breeding ewes, mainly Perendale, North Country and South Country Cheviots, lambing outside from April. Alongside the beef and lamb, the farm also produces pork. The beef, lamb and pork all available directly from the farm, including burgers, sausages and bacon. Put simply, this is Exmoor on a plate. The farm sells free-range, home-grown Aberdeen Angus beef (award-winning), lamb, and pork — sold as joints, burgers, sausages and bacon. Lamb/mint and pork/apple burgers are among the specialities. This is all available to purchase directly from the farm's seasonal on-site shop - please contact the farm for more details
